Minister for Energy & Mining Government of South Australia Hon Dan van Holst Pellekaan MP is South Australian Minister for Energy and Mining. Minister van Holst Pellekaan was elected to Parliament as the Member for Stuart in 2010. He was promoted to the Shadow Cabinet in 2011 and has held the Energy and Mining portfolios since June 2014. After his re-election at the 2018 State Election, he was sworn in as Minister for Energy and Mining in the Marshall Liberal Government. Minister van Holst Pellekaan started his working life as a labourer before playing four seasons in the National Basketball League and at the same time gaining a Bachelor of Economics. He then spent ten years with BP Australia before entering the small business sector as a shareholder and operator of Outback roadhouses for seven years. This was followed by three years developing cycle tourism in the Southern Flinders Ranges immediately before entering Parliament. Minister van Holst Pellekaan’s electorate extends from Kapunda at its southern end, all the way up to the NT border. It heads east to the NSW border. It includes the Mid North agricultural region, all of the Flinders Ranges and the vast north-east pastoral region surrounded by the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales. The regional city of Port Augusta is its main population centre. Australian High Commissioner Australian Trade & Investment Commission Bruce Gosper was previously CEO of Austrade, the Australian Government agency responsible for promoting trade, investment and international education, and tourism policy, programs and research. Executive Officer & Senior Executive Vice President, Kentaro Hosomi is the Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), President & CEO of Energy Systems. Mr. Hosomi serves as a member of the Mitsubishi Power Ltd. and MHI Vestas Offshore Wind A/S (MVOW) board. Mr. Hosomi was appointed current position on April, 2019, and he brings around 40 years of experience to MHI, and has a proven track record as a leader. In 2011, Mr. Hosomi was appointed as a General Manager of Business Development & Strategic Planning Department of Power Systems and responsible for business development, strategic planning, alliances for overall power systems business. There he made achievements such as the acquisition of PW Power Systems (PWPS) and the launch of the Savannah factory in Georgia, USA. Mr. Hosomi’s expertise in sales, marketing and commercial administration of various types of power plant projects, contributed to branding the company’s global presence in the power plant market. His sales career for power plant began with sales for Middle East Area and has reached nearly 30 years, including a five-year stay in London UK, and he left so many track records in receiving orders and executing projects. Mr. Hosomi earned his Bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Tokyo. In this role Paul will oversee Shell’s work in hydrogen as a fuel for transport and the growing business in industrial hydrogen. Prior to taking this role, Paul was Shell’s VP for Fuel Technologies, leading a team of 200+ scientists and engineers looking after all fuels development, including actively shaping future fuels and alternatives. Previous assignments in Shell included a range of commercial, technical and strategy roles in Shell’s aviation business and overseeing differentiated fuels and lubricants product development in the UK and US leading to a world’s first commercial flights on GTL Jet fuel as well as spearheading development of Pennzoil Pureplus – the first Motoroil born from Natural Gas. Paul holds an MSc in Aerospace Engineering from Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, and a post-graduate degree in fluid dynamics from the Von Karman Institute in Brussels. Managing Director InterContinental Energy Alex has been a pioneer in the global renewables industry over the last twenty years. He has been involved in the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects - both onshore and offshore - in Europe and across the Asia Pacific region. After working for E.ON Renewables in the UK and CWP in Australia, Alex founded Wind Prospect in Hong Kong to address the growing Chinese renewables market. After an asset buyout by CLP Group, one of the largest utilities in Asia, he co-founded InterContinental Energy in 2014. With a successful track record as a Project Manager, Alex has been the Project Director of the Asian RE Hub since launch in 2014. Between 2010 and 2015, he has been Business Development Director in the Large Industry business, in particular for the supply of hydrogen to Energy and Petrochemical markets (Korea, Middle East). He returned in the field of Hydrogen Energy since 2015, first in charge of Marketing & Strategy for Air Liquide Group. The company and its subsidiaries currently engage 25 staff in Australia and Europe, across science, engineering, corporate and finance divisions. Senior Vice President Asia Hexagon Purus Based in Norway, Frank has served the Hexagon Group of companies for over 15 years. He is currently leading the expansion of Hexagon Purus, the company’s zero emission mobility business, to Asia as a Senior Vice President. Andrew has worked in over 40 countries in a variety of sectors, helping clients develop innovative integrated solutions across sectors including finance, up & downstream oil and gas, LNG, diverse chemicals & petrochemicals, fertilizers, industrial integration of renewables, mining, and government services. Andrew has been actively involved in a number of hydrogen projects relating both to pure green renewable sources, transitional ‘blue’ hydrogen sources typically from Steam Methane Reforming (SMR), in addition to blue/green renewable ammonia projects. VP, Zero Emission Aircraft Airbus Glenn Llewellyn is Vice President, Zero Emission Aircraft at Airbus. He is responsible for Airbus plans and activities to achieve our ambition to be the first major manufacturer to bring a zero-emission commercial aircraft to market. Prior to this appointment, Glenn was responsible for the research & technology portfolio focused on reducing Airbus product climate impact. This portfolio included demonstrators such as Vahana and City Airbus e-VTOLs as well as the E-FAN X hybrid-electric demonstrator. Before that, Glenn was the engineering and then program lead for several systems on the A350XWB, working as part of the overall aircraft design team on the aircraft concept, leading engineering trades, and ultimately leading the contracting and industrialisation of the different systems and equipment. Program Manager – Smart Grid ENGIE Lab Singapore Dr. PENG Xiaoyang received his B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering from Wuhan University, China in 2010, his M.Sc. degree in Power Engineering and his Ph.D in microgrid from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore in 2011 and 2016 respectively. He started his career with ENGIE Lab Singapore in 2016, working as a research engineer. He is currently a program manager in ENGIE Lab Singapore, the APAC R&D branch of ENGIE group, and managing all the topics relating to smart grid technologies, renewable energy integration and decarbonization solutions. He has been working on the frontline of green technologies within ENGIE, which itself is one of the world’s pioneer in carbon neutrality. He is managing the flagship project of the APAC R&D centre, Project SPORE under the ambitious REIDS initiative in collaboration with NTU, other industrial partners and government authorities. Energy Advisory Leader, South East Asia Arup Thomas Briault leads Energy across South East Asia for Arup and is co-chair of the IPPF hydrogen committee. He is a chartered engineer with over 18 years of experience in the low carbon energy sector. He has worked on a wide variety of low carbon energy projects, from concept to construction, with a particular specialism in commercial structuring of projects. He has worked on the procurement of a number of renewable energy integrated solutions over the past few years, with a focus on the energy transition, including hydrogen, onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, batteries, district heating and cooling and heat pumps. He is also technical advisor to a number of UK, European and global energy efficiency funds. Thomas has recently given up seats on a number of UK Industry and Government working groups, and has been invited to author a number of industry and government guidance standards in the UK. He recently led Project Cavendish, a project to create a blue hydrogen hub on the Isle of Grain in the UK capable of replacing 50% of London and the South East of England’s gas supply. Lead Hydrogen Analyst BloombergNEF Martin Tengler is BNEF’s Lead Hydrogen Analyst and a founding member of BNEF’s Hydrogen Team. Martin sits in BloombergNEF’s Tokyo office and has covered Japan’s energy market before specializing in hydrogen. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Martin co-founded Dendra Systems, a company that offers industrial-scale ecosystem restoration services using drones and other cutting-edge technology. He holds an MA in Economics from Tokyo University and an MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy from Oxford University. VP Ammonia Energy & Shipping Fuel, Climate Neutrality Yara International ASA Rob has an MSc in chemical engineering and a PhD in Applied Thermodynamics from Delft University of Technology, the Netehrlands. Rob started his career in Yara in product and technology development for fertilisers. Since then Rob held several management positions in Yara production (Urea, ammonia and nitric acid), of which 10 years in ammonia, including the General Manager role at Yara Pilbara, Western Australia. Currently Rob works as VP Ammonia Energy and Shipping Fuel in the Climate Neutrality team, with a focus to bring green ammonia at scale, contributing to the Yara target of climae neutrality by 2050 in the full the value chain. Associate, Environment & Resources Arup Kellie Charlesworth leads the Arup Australasia energy skills network with a focus on the energy transition to a low carbon economy. Kellie brings a passion for collaboration toward a sustainable future. An environmental engineer by training, she has a depth of experience in strategy, planning, delivery and approvals for large infrastructure initiatives. Kellie has had a lead role in many of Arup’s hydrogen projects in the region including New Zealand Green Hydrogen Vision and the Australian Hydrogen Strategy Hydrogen Hubs report. She is an active member of the Australian Hydrogen Council working groups with a focus on supporting a positive policy and social setting for advancement of the Australian hydrogen economy. Chief Executive New Zealand Hydrogen Association Throughout her 20-year career Linda has been at the forefront of driving innovation and change across the sustainability, solid waste and renewable energy sectors. Linda has an extensive global network across the hydrogen value chain and understands intimately the value proposition for renewable hydrogen, and in New Zealand in particular. In 2016 Linda founded a private sector consortium to progress the delivery of hydrogen infrastructure, which supported by the Government, transitioned to become the New Zealand Hydrogen Association in 2018. Linda is the Chief Executive of the Association and is committed to delivering its objectives of facilitating the delivery of hydrogen solutions both domestically and for export. Linda has been involved in progressing technical aspects of hydrogen production, storage, demand and end-use scenarios and she is currently developing strategic alliances with private sector entities to deliver a range of hydrogen projects across New Zealand. She is also engaged with international partners to advance the role that hydrogen can play in the transition to a low emission future and to position New Zealand at the forefront of the global hydrogen economy. Senior Research Fellow The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies Martin Lambert is a Senior Research Fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. Within the Natural Gas Research Programme at the Institute, he leads their work on renewable gas and hydrogen. Since leaving Shell in 2016, in addition to his work with the Institute, Martin works as an independent consultant specialising in the international gas and LNG business. Acting Executive Director - Infrastructure, Planning and Economic Development Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science & Innovation, Australia Kristian Dawson is the acting Executive Director of the Infrastructure, Planning and Economic Development division at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation. John is a Professional Engineer (EGBC) and Chartered Engineer (Engineers Ireland) with 20 years of experience as an engineer, manager and leader in the energy sector. He has a diverse technical background having held leadership roles in energy utility, engineering consultancy and clean and renewable energy project development organizations. John brings a unique understanding of the energy industry having worked in Ireland, the UK and Canada on major gas infrastructure and renewable energy projects. ASEAN Director CSIRO Liza Noonan is the ASEAN Director for CSIRO; Australia’s national science agency. In this role Liza is responsible for supporting a portfolio of science and innovation activities spanning data science, advanced manufacturing, agriculture & food, health, low emissions technology and environmental sustainability. Prior to this role Liza was the Executive Manager of Innovation at the CSIRO and founder of the ON Accelerator- Australia’s first national science & technology accelerator supporting public funded research achieve real world impact faster. Liza has extensive experience in innovation and technology as CEO OF Springboard Enterprises Australia, a venture backer of female founded business, and held a variety of leadership roles globally spanning Strategy, Marketing & Innovation in the TMT sector. Liza is currently a Non-Executive Director and joint Vice-President at the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore; is an Australian Innovation Awards judge and has previously sat on the Executive Council for the IoT Alliance Australia and served as a non-executive director for the Canberra Innovation Network. Senior Investment Specialist Australian Trade & Investment Commission David Grabau has strong technical proficiency and experience in the resources and energy sectors, with a valuable combination of experience in both government and ASX top 20 corporates. Since joining Austrade as Senior Investment Specialist for resources and energy in April 2017, David has helped a number of major international companies identify and secure investment opportunities in the Australian market. More recently, he has been working closely on Australian capability in hydrogen, renewables, mining technology, critical minerals and lithium-ion battery value chains. Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – ASEAN Australian Trade & Investment Commission Tom Calder commenced in June 2018 as Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – ASEAN, a new appointment under the Queensland Trade and Investment Strategy 2017–2022. Based in TIQ’s Singapore office, Tom is responsible for Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and other ASEAN nations in the region. He brings to the role 20 years’ experience in international trade and investment, having been an Australian trade commissioner in India and, most recently, Austrade State Director for Western Australia. Tom has also worked for the University of Melbourne as Regional Manager (Middle East and China), and was an Australian Government industry advisor. Tom has longstanding connections in the ASEAN region, having spent his early childhood in South East Asia before returning to Queensland for high school. Leader CSIRO Hydrogen Industry Mission Dr. Hartley is the leader of CSIRO’s Hydrogen Industry Mission. In this role, he is responsible for developing the strategy and operating model for a major new national initiative which is focussed on delivering R&D partnerships which enable the scaleup of Australia’s domestic and export hydrogen industries. For over 25 years, Vincent has been at the forefront of developments in the energy and infrastructure sectors, from privatisations and infrastructure investments and development to the emergence and rapid deployment of renewable energy. H.E. Mr Bruce Gosper
Prior to Austrade, Mr Gosper was Deputy Secretary with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australia’s senior trade policy official, responsible for all trade negotiations.
His career includes serving as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva. During that time Mr Gosper chaired the WTO General Council and the WTO Dispute Settlement Body.
Mr Gosper was previously Minister (Commercial) in the Australian Embassy in Washington, and Minister-Counsellor (Agriculture) in the Tokyo Embassy.
Mr Gosper is a current member of the Asia Society Advisory Council. world’s worst waste - MSW, plastics, medical refuse - into clean energy and fuel.
Jean-Louis is also Co-Founder and CEO of cleantech management company Clean Energy Enterprises, which created Ways2H as a joint venture with Japan Blue Energy Corp. Previously, Jean-Louis was president of OriginClear Inc.’s Technology Division, a leading provider of water treatment solutions, where he led commercial development of a breakthrough water treatment technology. Jean-Louis is still a member of OriginClear’s board of directors. Before joining OriginClear, Jean-Louis was co-founder and chief technology officer of Ennesys, an award-winning French biotech company, where he designed an innovative waste-to-energy system and hosted French President François Hollande during a 2013 state visit to the company.
Jean-Louis earlier served as founding CEO of MHS Equipment, a French nanotechnologies equipment manufacturer, where he led the development of a new fuel cell components manufacturing process.
Jean-Louis started his 30-year career in the cleantech sector in Japan, as principal of technology incubator Pacific Junction. His work there included technology sourcing for the French industrial group GEC-Alsthom, building the first version of the BLUE Tower waste-to-hydrogen commercial unit, and providing market development for a fluids-mixing technology.

In 2018, whilst leading CSIRO’s Hydrogen Energy Systems Future Science Platform, he worked with the Chief Scientist of Australia, Dr. Alan Finkel, leading the taskforce which delivered the briefing paper ‘Hydrogen for Australia’s Future’ which was presented to the Council of Australian Government’s (COAG) Energy council in August 2018, and which laid the foundations for the development of Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy, which was subsequently delivered and adopted by federal state and territory governments in November 2019.
Also in 2018 he co-led the development of CSIRO’s National Hydrogen Roadmap. This seminal study was the first in Australia to bring together industry and government groups to perform technoeconomic evaluation of Australia’s potential hydrogen value chains (including export). It has been highly cited nationally and internationally. In 2019, he conceived and co-authored the study ‘Hydrogen Research, Development & Demonstration: Priorities and opportunities for Australia’ which was delivered in November 2019 as an input into Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy.
Since then he has given more than 30 invited and keynote presentations on hydrogen related topics, appeared in both print and electronic media, and is a frequent advisor to government and industry hydrogen industry initiatives both domestically and internationally.
As a research scientist, Dr. Hartley has led research projects focussed on developing new technologies for applications in drug delivery, energy storage, water treatment and petroleum recovery. Dr. Hartley has occupied senior research leadership roles in CSIRO since 2007.
